The Housing for Healthier Hearts Project identified a substantial group of poor owner-occupiers in Bradford who suffered from chronic illness but received little in the way of housing or health support. The project demonstrated the effectiveness of a short-term task-centred programme of intervention and support by housing and health workers in improving mental health, quality of life and the ability of residents to remain independent. Nevertheless there was concern that multi-agency working, prominent at the policy level, proved difficult to realise at the "grass-roots".
