Local authorities in England must accommodate people who are homeless through no fault of their own, who have a connection to the local area and who fall into one of several “priority need” categories. The priority need system has discriminated against single homeless people with no dependents. Article calls for its abolition and replacement by a system that will offer help to anyone who is unintentionally homeless.
