Government reforms of the care system aimed at 16 and 17 year-old care leavers may not help young disabled people who are often in the care system for longer.

Remploy, the state-owned employer of disabled workers, has announced that it will go ahead with a rationalisation of its operations involving the closure of 7 factories and the loss of 900 jobs. In future it will place more emphasis on training disabled people to enable them to find work with mainstream employers.
