Welfare Reform on the Web (March 2007): Services for the disabled - overseas

M. Ward Platt and B. Benson

Community Care, Feb. 15th -21st 2007, p. 26-27

Ashley X has severe encephalopathy and so will never walk or talk. When she was six, her parents sought surgery to restrict her growth so that they could continue to care for her. The authors argue for and against this use of medical procedures to adapt a disabled person to meet the needs of her family and the wider society.
