A new deal for carers

The care services minister announced a multi-million pound package of support for carers in February 2007, including a national helpline and more emergency respite care. He also announced a consultation exercise to update the 1999 carers strategy. This article considers priority areas for action.

The Marac (Multi-agency risk assessment conference) model of intervention in cases of domestic violence involves an initial risk assessment to identify those at greatest risk so that a multi-agency approach to prevention may be taken. Evidence suggests that this approach reduces recidivism even among those most at risk.
