Access to Understanding is a new science-writing competition for PhD students and early career researchers with an interest in communicating science to the public. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of opening up the results of scientific research, so that they are accessible to everyone.
Winning entrants will be recognised at this award ceremony where a prestigious panel including: David Ardron (patient advocate), Tracey Brown (Sense about Science), Stephen Curry (Imperial College London), Simon Denegri (INVOLVE), Sharmila Nebhrajani (Association of Medical Research Charities) and Peter Rodgers (eLife Journal) will talk about why public engagement and communication of science are important. Award-winners will have set a piece of cutting-edge research in context so that anyone can appreciate why the research was done and its potential importance to improving our understanding and/or human health. Refreshments will be provided.
Organised in association with Europe PubMed Central. For more information on the competition see http://EuropePMC.org/ScienceWritingCompetition
