The final event in this series will examine why people believe the social myths that they do. Why do social surveys suggest that benefit fraud and immigration are over-estimated by the general population? Why are politicians not always very strong on social facts? This event will examine the role of the media in producing and maintaining social myths, and will look at what social scientists can do to address the issue. It will explore what the prevalence of social myths tells us about access to knowledge in our society. This event will be chaired by Professor Dame Janet Finch.

Our speakers are Professor Ivor Gaber, AcSS, City University and Professor John Holmwood, AcSS, University of Nottingham and President of the British Sociological Association.

This will be the last in our Myths and Realities series and will include a celebration of the twenty debates with a drink included in the ticket price. Please join the discussion and celebration!
