A lecture-recital celebrating the 400th anniversary of the publication of Parthenia, the first engraved collection of music for keyboard in England. First printed in London by G Lowe on the occasion of the betrothal of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Frederick, Parthenia contains a selection of music for the virginals by William Byrd, John Bull, and Orlando Gibbons.
Speakers Colin Huehns (Royal Academy of Music), Oliver Neighbour, and Dr Sandra Tuppen (British Library) will discuss Parthenia’s importance, with illustrations from the Library’s collections and performances by musicians from the Royal Academy of Music.
