Jade gem-set flywhisk handle

This is a magnificent jade and gem-set flywhisk handle or 'morchhal'. The inside is lined with silver and contains a metal spoke to which peacock feathers would have been attached. Objects such as this reflect the wealth of the imperial treasury. Mughal, first half of the 17th century. Private Collection, Courtesy of Simon Ray, London
