Routes onto the Library site
There are four pedestrian entrances into the Library site at St Pancras. There are signs to guide you to the Conference Centre and the entrance to the main building which show a wheelchair symbol.
From the Ossulston Street entrance, the principal disabled entrance, there is step-free access by level surfaces and ramps.
From the Portico entrance on the west corner of Euston Road adjoining Ossulston Street at the front of the Library there are ramps around the Piazza to the entrance of the Conference Centre and the main building. The more direct route from this entrance and across the Piazza has several level changes and steps en route. The paving can be slippery in wet conditions and so this area of the Piazza may be closed during adverse weather; the ramped pathway remains open for use.
From the Portico entrance on the East corner of Euston Road adjoining the Midland Road beside the coffee bar there is a ramped entrance leading to both the Main Library and Conference Centre.
From the Midland Road entrance there is a level entrance to ramped pathways leading to both the Main Library and Conference Centre.
There are four wide shallow steps from the ground level to the front doors. Wheelchair users may use the ramp to the right of the steps. The centre doors of the main entrance open automatically. The exit doors on the right-hand side open with a light push as they are touch sensitive for ease of access. Assistance may be needed by those using a wheelchair or with a dog. Security staff will be happy to help.
The Information Desk is opposite and slightly to the right of the entrance doors. To the right of the Information Desk there is a ramp to the lower ground floor for the cloakroom and locker room.
On the right-hand side towards the rear of the Entrance Hall there is also a disabled lift that will accommodate a standard-size wheelchair and gives access to the lower ground and upper ground floors only (which are where the main larger public lifts are sited)
On the lower ground floor just to the left of the cloakroom there are phone cubicles which can be used for more private calls on mobile phones or to assist in hearing as they help to reduce the ambient noise. There are also lifts on this floor which serve all floors.
For those attending conferences, meetings or public events, the closest access is from either Euston Road entrance next to the Espresso Bar, or from Midland Road entrance into the Piazza, and then up a ramp to the left. Assistance may be needed for those using a wheelchair or with an assistance dog. (If you arriving by car and are using the disabled parking bays based on Ossulston Street please read the sections on parking and routes onto the Library site above).
Please check in at the Reception Desk on arrival. There is a disabled lift within the reception area that will accommodate a standard-size wheelchair and gives access to the foyer, auditorium and meeting rooms on the first floor of the Conference Centre. If you have a larger sized wheel chair you will need to advise us in advance of your visit so that we can make arrangements for your access.
Induction loops are installed in the Auditorium and portable hearing loops can be provided for use in the meeting rooms in the conference centre if requested in advance.
The seats on the front row or by the central aisle in the Auditorium can be reserved for patrons with disabilities, subject to availability and these can be booked in advance. There is also a lift facility between the auditorium and the stage which can be booked in advance when required by the event.
