Decommissioned British Library web content
Best practise in managing web content is to regularly audit, review, and improve existing content or decommission content that fails to meet accessibility and our web content standards. Find out which content has been retired and what alternative content might be relevant.
We regularly review our websites and online resources to ensure they meet current technological demands and accessibility standards. Content is also checked and updated as necessary. If a website fails technology or accessibility requirements, its design and functionality will be updated or it may be decommissioned.
In many cases, users of a decommissioned resource will be redirected to equivalent or related material on our website. If we no longer provide an equivalent, we may redirect users to the UK Web Archive, where the decommissioned material is preserved. If these options are not available we will suggest other useful resources - please see the list below.
The following list of decommissioned web domains details the reason they were retired and the action taken to help users find equivalent or similar content.
