Andy Rackley

BSA fellowship British Library

Andy is the inaugural BSA Fellow for Sociology at the British Library – a new postdoctoral research post established through a partnership between the British Library and the British Sociological Association. Andy is undertaking a scoping study to show the potential of the British Library’s collections for sociological research, provide feedback and help to promote the collections to members of the BSA and the wider sociological research community.

I think one of the underlying principles of the Fellowship… is that you might just be surprised by what you can find [at the BL].

Key points

  • The BSA’s desire to encourage exploration of sociological phenomena using archival materials aligns closely with our commitment to widening access to our collections.
  • Andy’s Fellowship aims to bridge these two objectives, and he will produce a report for the Library and the BSA at the end of the project.
  • The Fellowship helps to ‘demystify’ our collections for sociologists and indicates where to start, what to look for and how to look for it.
