The Application Support team

Two Application Support team members at a PC

Whilst we’re structured like many other IT teams, what we do day-to-day ultimately leads to the preservation of our history and collective knowledge. And, because our collection is very diverse, it could be print or sound based.

You won't find these kind of challenges in many other organisations

Whether we’re fixing an end user issue, supporting our library systems or building new ones, our purpose is pretty unique. You certainly won't find these kind of challenges in many other organisations. We also get to learn lots of new things about many types of content. And, it's not all about the collections either. We enable people to search and locate information for reference and review in our Reading Rooms and across the wider internet. We also support the Box Office and CRM systems that allow people to register and book tickets to attend special events. Put simply, it’s fair to say that working in Application Support here is genuinely interesting, our responsibilities are wide-ranging and our challenges many and varied.

A typical working day might involve reviewing monitoring tools for issues, completing scheduled application activities or progressing and resolving incidents and issues raised by our customers. You could find yourself working with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver change and enhancements, making sure the interface between customers, internal IT teams and suppliers works efficiently or providing consultancy for supported applications. What is for certain is that our focus is very much on making sure the Library’s extensive range of IT services are operating efficiently and that we provide an excellent service to our external customers.
