We have been at the forefront of digitisation and digital preservation projects for over two decades.
Our team is constantly learning and developing
Imaging Services North consists of a large digitisation studio at Boston Spa in West Yorkshire that provides a range of digitisation services on British Library and other organisations’ collections. Our team is made up of Imaging Technicians and Scanner Operatives, as well as Studio Managers and support staff; while the work varies from digitising one off premium images to thousands of pages from a single document.
Our studios are unique in that we take original collection items and make them digital through various techniques and for different uses. Some of the memorable items digitised in the studio include the Glass Lantern Slides and Minutes from the opening meetings of the Royal Society of Chemistry and memorabilia from World War One brought in by members of the public! What’s more, rapidly changing technology means that nothing stays still in the studio for very long and our team regularly needs to train and develop to keep abreast of new and exciting development in the field.
…Every day is genuinely different…
Our award-winning Customer Services team is the first point of contact for many British Library users.
…Technology here is unique. It ultimately helps preserve our history…
We’re a mixed-skill, multi-disciplinary unit that’s responsible for delivering digital services for the whole Library.
…I find my role hugely fulfilling…
Seema is a Business Librarian in the Business & IP Centre providing reference and research services to readers, entrepreneurs and other external business customers.
