search tips

Scope of the catalogues

There are two main ways to search the database.
  • Quick search on main page
  • Advanced search

Quick search

Searches by keywords. Enter, for example a person’s name/subject/ gender/profession/ city /nationality/topic.
Examples: Montanari, Urban; poetry, theatre; woman; engraver, censor, printer; Bologna; French;volcanoes.

The keyword can be in truncated form to increase the number of hits (example: ‘amor*’ will include any variation such as ‘amoroso’, ‘amorosa’, ‘amori’ etc.; ‘poe*’ for ‘poeta’, ‘poetessa’, ‘poesia’, ‘poesie’, ‘poetry’, ‘poetries’, ‘poems’, ‘poetic’, etc.). To refine a keyword search add a second term: e.g. French author; Spanish language.
