Notes |
London: Religious Tract Society. [Bungay] John Childs and Son, printers. Book size: 110x168x32mm. Ticket size: 19x12mm.
Bunyan (John) The pilgrim's progress. Portrait, 16 plates, pp. vi, 3-378, upper blank margins a bit water stained, a few leaves at the end with some other stains, black leather, sides gilt with central plaque partly infilled with lines of dots within rules, diamond shaped centre piece, spine gilt in compartments, g.e., pale yellow endpapers, by Benjamin West, Clerkenwell, with his diamond shaped ticket (black on yellow) on rear pastedown, corners a bit worn, front free endpaper torn out, London, RTS, (printed by John Childs [Bungay]), c. 1860-70 £35.
Quite late for a West binding; it is a pity that the book cannot be more firmly dated.
