Description: A historiated initial ('I'), with roundels illustrating the days of Creation; angels and a potential clerical commissioner with scrolls in the left margin; pairs of Christian and pagan philosophers discussing the creation of the world, illustrated with text on scrolls, in the lower margin (from left to right: Augustine in discussion with Aristotle, with the inscription 'Ex nichilo nichil fieri…' written between them, and Albertus Magnus in discussion with Averroes, with the inscription, 'Deus creator omnium…'); 3 Old Testament figures, including the central figure of Mechisedek, in the right margin. The iconography of this illumination is unique and the decorative style has been linked to the milieu of Jan van Eyck in the Meuse region.
