Peter and Paul
Description: Miniature with scenes from the lives of Peter and Paul in various registers. In the upper register, on the left: miniature of Christ speaking to Peter outside the walls of Rome, with two other disciples listening. On the right: miniature of Christ speaking to Paul in Jerusalem (during a dream) and calling him to missionary work in Rome. In the lower register: miniature of Agrippa and Nero seated under an arch, watching the martyrdoms of Peter and Paul. Peter is being hammered onto an upside-down cross (the faces of the hammerers were later defaced), while Paul is beheaded by a swordsman.
