Burney 3 f. 156v The capture of Jerusalem
The capture of Jerusalem
Description: Illuminated historiated initial 'P' at the beginning of II Kings, probably representing the events related in II Kings 24:11, in which King Nebuchadnezzar besieged and captured Jerusalem. This subject may have been chosen because it was relatively 'topical': Jerusalem had been captured in the Fourth Crusade just a few decades before this manuscript was made.
Origin: England, S. E. (Canterbury?)
