Description: |
Miniature of balsam, depicted growing in a walled garden with seven springs and jars to catch the balsam, and protected by two knights in armour with shields with heraldic arms. Based on other manuscripts in the Tractatus de herbis tradition, it is probably intended to show Babylon, the Roman-Byzantine fortified town which survives today in the Coptic quarter of Old Cairo. |
