Charlemagne and religious orders
Description: Miniature of the Virgin and Queen of Heaven, holding out her cloak to shelter the king of France, Charlemagne (with an arch-topped imperial crown and imperial eagle), a queen, a pope, cardinals, and bishops with full border including 6 medallions. In the medallions are an Augustinian in a black habit, a Franciscan in a grey habit, and a Carthusian in a white habit, a Cistercian nun in a white habit with the black veil and a Benedictine novice in black with a white veil.
