Description: |
Table of the Twelve Articles of Faith, from the De Lisle Psalter (Arundel 83 II). The central column of medallions lists the articles of faith; the left column contains the names of twelve Old Testament prophets, with the connecting bands inscribed with their prophecies. The right column lists the twelve Apostles, with the connecting bands inscribed with the portion of the Apostle's Creed traditionally assigned to each. The table is surmounted with the head of Christ, flanked on the left by a group of prophets, and on the right by a group of Apostles. At the base of the table is a symbolic respresentation of the parable of Dives and Lazarus (Luke 16: 19-31). |
