Collation i-ix8 (ff. 1-72), x12 (ff. 73-84), xi-xii8 (ff. 85-100), xiii six (probably 8-2), the last two leaves cancelled (ff. 101-103, including ff. [102a-102c].

Binding Post-1600. Brown leather over thick wooden boards.
Provenance The Augustinian abbey of the Holy Cross, Waltham, Essex (founded 1177): inscribed 'hic est liber sancte crucis de waltha(m)'; its press-marks (inside upper cover).
William Rottorend, Canon of Waltham abbey: 15th-century inscription ? 'quod domino Willlmo Rottorend canonico monasterio de Walltham sancte crucis' (f. 103v, cf. lower pastedown).
Charles Fotherby (b. 1674, d. 1720), Capt. RN, MP, nephew of the Rev. Charles Fotherby (d. 1677), fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge: inscribed ‘Charles Fotherby given by Charles Fotherby by his uncle' (f. 1, lower margin). Bertram Ashburnham (b. 1797, d. 1878), 4th earl of Ashburnham, of Ashburnham Place, Sussex.
Bertram Ashburnham (b. 1840, d. 1913), 5th earl of Ashburnham: purchased by the British Museum from him together with 1084 other Stowe manuscripts in 1883.
Notes Baldwin entered the abbey of Ford, a daughter-house of Waverley, in 1169; in 1173 he was made abbot, and he held the abbacy until 1180 when he was elevated to the see of Worcester. Baldwin was archbishop of Canterbury from 1184-1190.
