Decoration 3-sided white vine border, in colours and gold (f. 1). 11 large white vine initials, in colours and gold, at the beginning of the prologue and of the 10 books (ff. 1, 2, 16v, 33v, 49, 54, 63v, 81v, 95v, 108v, 123v, order of the books 4-6 reversed). Small initials in plain blue.

Thomas Howard (b. 1585, d. 1646), 2nd earl of Arundel, 4th earl of Surrey, and 1st earl of Norfolk, art collector and politician: inscribed 'Siena 14 Junii 1614. Sto. No. T: Arundell' (f. 1).
Henry Howard (b. 1628, d. 1684), 6th duke of Norfolk, presented to the Royal Society in 1667.
The Royal Society, London (its ink stamp: 'Soc. Reg. Lond. / ex dono HENR. HOWARD / Norfolciensis', f. 1v).
Purchased by the British Museum from the Royal Society of London together with 549 other Arundel manuscripts in 1831.
