Meir b. Malakiel Ashkenazi: sold to his brother-in-law, Moses Ibn Keves in the month of Sivan 5162 (3 May to 1 June 1402): inscribed (on a strip of vellum stuck on a paper strip pasted on f. 1). Abraham Hen, son of the nobleman R. Ja'udah, physician, son of R. Emanuel Hen the physician of the house of Shealtiel: inscribed with his name (f. 50v). Pencil note in English: "Spanish mss. Of this age are so rare that the Brit. Mus. has not one like this." (f. [i verso]). Purchased by the British Museum at Bragge's sale on 7-10 June 1876: inscribed (f. [i verso]); perhaps William Bragge (b. 1823, d. 1884), civil engineer and steel manufacturer. |
Notes |
The manuscript was called 'Brother Haggadah' by Bezalel Narkiss. The title refers to the fact that both in its iconographical features and in style, the manuscript is very similar to the Rylands Haggadah. On the Narkiss nomenclature, see Katrin Kogman-Appel 1997, p. 452 n. 9. |
