Artists By three different hands, one in the style of Robert Boyvin (ff. 18, 20, 21v, 23, 24v, 34v, 68v, 90), an associate (ff. 3v-15, 74, 79v, 84v, 98v), and one attributed to the Master of the David Scenes in the Grimani Breviary (ff. 38, 54v, 65v, 67, 122, 143) (see Backhouse 2004).
Decoration 24 small miniatures, in colours and gold, in the calendar (ff. 3v-15). 14 large miniatures with large decorated initials and full scatter or al antica borders, in colours and gold (ff. 18, 24v, 38, 54v, 65v, 67, 68v, 74, 79v, 84v, 90, 98v, 122, 143). 5 small miniatures with partial scatter borders, in colours and gold (ff. 20, 21v, 23, 34v, 107). All text pages with partial scatter borders, in colours and gold. Small decorated initials (2 lines) in grisaille on gold grounds. Small initials (1 line) in gold on red or blue grounds.

Form Parchment codex
Binding Pre-1600. Gold-tooled brown leather, 16th century, the centre of each cover with a monogram of the letters 'FDB'(?); traces of clasps.
Provenance Unidentified owner, 16th century, perhaps with the initials 'BDF' (monogram on binding).
Inscribed prayers in Latin, dated 1589 (ff. 184v-186).
Inscribed, early 17th century: 'Madelaine des Foubeville' on an added print, dated 1600 (f. 1).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts, inscribed as usual by their librarian, Humfrey Wanley '23. Februarij 1720/21.' (f. 2). Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta Cavendish, née Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d.1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
Notes f. 1 is an added printed leaf of a title page for a book of hours, Paris 1600, signed by 'Iamet Mettayer Imprimeur Ordinaire du Roy'.
