Provenance The cathedral priory of St. Andrew, Rochester: inscribed 'Lib[er] de claustro Roffen[si] p[er] Jerardu[m] mon[achum]' (f. 1); included in the Rochester library catalogue of 1202, among the books of Robert, prior of the Rochester cell at Walton St. Felix, or Felixstowe ('Waletune') (Royal 5 B. XII, f. 3, Rye, no. 239).
Added theological commonplaces of various dates, including a metrical decalogue in a 13th-century hand, beginning, 'Cunctipotens unus non est alius deus ullus' (f. 114v).
Thomas Wybarn, monk of Rochester, 15th-century: a prayer and three couplets of satirical Latin verse in his hand (ff.114v, 115).
A draft of a verse epistle of a lover to his mistress in a 16th-century hand, beginning, 'Syn fortune hath forbarryt your presence | I can not oper wyse myn herte vnclose' (f. 114).
The Old Royal Library (the English Royal Library): Westminster inventory number 'no. 697' (f. [ii]); included in the inventory of books in the Upper Library at Westminster of 1542; in the 1698 catalogue of the library of St Jamesís Palace (see [Edward Bernard], Catalogi librorum manuscriptorum Angliae et Hiberniae (Oxford: Sheldonian, '1697', but 1698?), no. 8656; red seal of a ship (unfoliated parchment folio after f. [i]).
Presented to the British Museum by George II in 1757 as part of the Old Royal Library.
