Johann Pirckheimer (b. 1440, d. 1501), son of Hans Pirckheimer, Nuremberg patrician, jurist, diplomat, and humanist, presumably acquired c. 1460 (see Reeve 1983, p. 238): throughout annotated in his hand. Willibald Pirckheimer (b. 1470, d. 1530), son of Johann Pirckheimer, Nuremberg patrician, diplomat, and humanist: epigramms to his beloved Barbara (ff. 1, 139v-141) (see Holzberg 1981, p. 393 n. 61). Hans Hieronymus Imhoff (b. 1569, d. 1629), great-grandson of Willibald Pirckheimer. Thomas Howard (b. 1585, d. 1646), 2nd earl of Arundel, 4th earl of Surrey, and 1st earl of Norfolk, art collector and politician: purchased from Imhoff in 1636 with other manuscripts from the Pirckheimer library, presented to the Royal Society in 1667. The Royal Society, London (its ink stamp: 'Soc. Reg. Lond / ex dono HENR. HOWARD / Norfolciensis.', f. 2). Purchased by the British Museum from the Royal Society of London together with 549 other Arundel manuscripts in 1831. |
