Foliate initials in colours and gold with ivy extensions forming partial borders, at the beginning of each book. Initials and paraphs in gold on blue and rose grounds with penwork decoration in white. Line-fillers in blue, rose, and gold with penwork decoration in white. |

Jean of Valois, (b. 1340, d.1416), duke of Berry, purchased by him in 1407: his ownership inscription [erased], 'Ce livre est au duc de berry. Jehan'; included in the inventory of his books of 1413, no. 106, as 'Un grant livre appellé les Croniques de Burgues, escript, en françois, de lettre de court, bien historié et enluminé, lequel Monseigneur acheta, le 29 octobre 1407, la somme de 160 escus d'or comptans'; and in the inventory of 1416, no. 504, with a note, 'Baillé à la duchesse de Bourbonnais' (See Delisle, 1907, II).
The Old Royal Library (the English Royal Library): included in the list of books at Richmond Palace of 1535, no. 3; and in the catalogue of 1666, Royal Appendix 71, f. 13.
Presented to the British Museum by George II in 1757 as part of the Old Royal Library. |
