Large and small decorated initials with foliate extensions into the margins, in colours and gold. Large and small initials in red with blue pen-flourishing or in blue with red pen-flourishing. Unidentified member of the Cornaro family of Venice: arms of parety per pale, or and azure, and the monogram 'I C' (f. 15); modern pencil note (3rd flyleaf [f. iii]). Erased inscription (4th flyleaf [f. iv]). ? The Marquis Costabili [Comestabili] of Bologna, 18/19th? century: modern pencil note (3rd flyleaf [f. iii]). Biblioteca nazionale di S. Marco, Venice, 18/19th century: book-plate (inside upper cover [f. i)]. Inscribed, 20th-century: 'To Darling Kaye with love from Harry. The second jewel' (2nd flyleaf [f. ii]). Bought by the British Museum in 1942, using the Bridgewater fund (£12,000 bequeathed in in 1829 by Francis Henry Egerton, 8th Earl of Bridgewater (b. 1756, d. 1829). |
