Decoration Two miniatures in colours with gold on tesselated grounds (ff. 1, 152v), with a three-sided foliate border in gold and colours (f. 1) and partial border in gold and colours (f. 152v). Initials with foliate decoration in colours on gold ground (ff. 1, 152v). Small initials and paraphs in gold with blue pen-flourishing and in blue with red pen-flourishing.
Dimensions in mm 310 x 235 (245 x 155) in two columns
Official foliation ff. 175 (+ plus 5 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the beginning and 4 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the end; in addition, bound between the 4th and 5th flyleaves at the beginning is a modern paper cutting onto which is pasted a copy of the description of the manuscript in the inventory of 1413 (cf. Guiffrey, Inventaires (1894), I, p. 262))

Marie, Duchess of Bourbon and of Auvergne (b. 1375, d. 1434): see Guiffrey, Inventaires (1894), I, p. CLXXV.
Jean Sala, Capitaine de Lyon (b. c. 1460, d. after 1535): his inscription f. 174v.
François Regnard, of Lyon: his inscription f. 175 ('Ce livret a moy quy me nomme Francoys Regnard a Lion le ?9 de avril 1587').
Purchased by the British Museum from B. Quaritch, 8 April 1876: a note on f. [iv].
Notes Miroir des dames (ff. 1-146v), a translation of Durandus of Campania's Speculum dominarum (composed and translated for Jeanne de Navarre (b. c. 1271, d. 1305)), compiled with a Miroir du monde in verse (ff. 147-149v), extracts from the Somme le roi (ff. 164v-167) and other devotional works in French.
The book is concluded by 'Explicit le livre du mirouer de dames' (f. 175).
This manuscript contains the same collection of texts as Brussels, Bibliothèque royale de Belgique MS 9555-9558 (also attributed to the workshop of the Virgil Master), and Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, nouv. acq. fr. 5232.
Running heads in red in the top margin. Additional titles in red in the bottom margin indicate the different sections of the Miroir des dames up to and including f. 99.
