About the collection
We have important travel collections such as Wilhelm Berger’s views of Japan, large-format architectural and landscape views of France, Switzerland and Italy produced for the tourist market by the firm of Adolphe Braun. There is also an extensive series of views documenting the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, Sergeant James MacDonald’s photographs taken during the Ordnance Survey expeditions to Jerusalem in 1864 (Maps 30.e.19-20) and Sinai (Maps 29.d.28), the Arctic Expedition of 1875 (Maps 20.c.12-13).
