This plan from the Crace Collection bears witness to the speed with which London recovered from the fire, for by 1676 the city had largely been reconstructed. The Monument, marked as ‘The pillar where ye fire began an 1666’, then in its final stages of completion, can be seen on the east side of Fish Street as it runs north from London Bridge. The interior ground plans of the rebuilt churches are also shown, as are the vacant sites of other churches destroyed by the fire. The wavy line running from the west side of Great Tower Hill northwards indicates the easternmost extent of the fire.
