This briefing tackles some common myths about arthritis and provides useful links for additional resources. The five myths explored are: arthritis only affects older people, and is inevitable; nothing can be done to treat arthritis; if you have arthritis you shouldn’t exercise; arthritis causes discomfort but is mainly an inconvenience and does not have a major impact on people’s lives; and arthritis does not have a substantial impact on society and need not be a priority for health policy makers.
