This briefing is for a debate on the importance on an active lifestyle to health and wellbeing. It calls for speakers to help highlight the Chief Medical Officer’s observation that osteoarthritis is an unrecognised public health priority. It also highlights Arthritis Research UK’s wish to see a lead individual for arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions within Public Health England address the challenge.

The briefing gives a brief account on the importance of an active lifestyle for people with arthritis; the link between obesity and osteoarthritis; the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines on osteoarthritis; the Chief Medical Officer’s view; and what Arthritis Research UK would like to see, namely a lead individual within Public Health England whose responsibilities include arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions.
