During the Middle Ages, the practice of gathering different texts from various periods in the same manuscript was common. In most cases, these collections served a practical purpose, often pedagogical. This French manuscript provides a good example of such a compilation. It contains a work on arithmetic written by Boethius (b. c. 480, d. 524) along with texts on medicine copied in the ninth century.

In the mid-11th century the volume was supplemented by the addition of a work on the conjugation of Latin verbs. The volume was in the collection of the Abbey of St Benignus of Dijon by the 18th century, and was added to the national collection in 1804.
