Description

Written around 1573, this volume of complimentary verses dedicated to Queen Elizabeth I was compiled by the boys and the High Master of St Paul’s School, London.

It contains four poems in Greek, by four different individuals. Each of these poems is also translated into Latin. Although the volume dates about 15 years after Elizabeth’s accession to the throne, the focus in the poems is on the beginning of her reign.

Together with other collections of complimentary verses (all found under Royal 12 A), the manuscript was incorporated into the Royal Collections which George II presented to the British Museum in 1757.
