Description

This collection of three works by the leading theologian of the early Church, St Augustine of Hippo (b. 354, d. 430), was copied at the abbey of Cluny. The scribe has been identified as Majolus, the abbot (r. 956–994), and later saint. Majolus noted that a missing section from one of the texts, the Liber de vera religion (Book of True Religion) in the example he was using has been added at the end. He must have found another copy and used it to complete his work. The manuscript features colourful, knotwork decoration initials in yellow, green and imitation silver.

This manuscript was digitised with the support of The Polonsky Foundation.
