Stroke can be a devastating and life changing event for people. In 2010 the Care Quality Commission (CQC) undertook a review of how well the health and social care pathway was working for people who had had a stroke and their carers.

This equality impact assessment describes equality, diversity and human rights aspects of stroke care. It focuses in particular on the potential for discriminatory or negative consequences for six groups of people, according to their “equality characteristics”: race, disability, gender, age, religion and belief, and sexual orientation.
