This wartime Cello Sonata (1916), by the English composer Frederick Delius, was written for the cellist Beatrice Harrison and dedicated to her. This manuscript was not written by Delius but by an unknown copyist, and bears extensive performance indications made by Beatrice herself. It therefore likely dates from c. 1918, when she gave the first performance at the Wigmore Hall, London on 31 October, accompanied by Hamilton Harty on piano.
