Home of an Italian family in Veneto
Information
Description
The official pictures of the occupied territories by the Imperial and Royal War Press Bureau are dominated by images of women. Civilian men, less so. This holds true for this picture of an Italian family in a house in Veneto. A young woman, a grandmother and six children are gathered around a stove. The young woman holds a letter, in which she seems to be completely absorbed. The other family members watch her attentively as if she were reading the letter of her enlisted husband, their son and father.
The bureau was the propaganda department of the Austro-Hungarian army. This unique collection contains pictures of the war at the eastern and southeastern fronts, the back country and from all areas of the monarchy.
