The Care Quality Commission promised to consult on its approach to human rights in the regulation of care services. The aim of this document is to:

  • Explain why a human rights approach is needed.
  • Explain the Commission's proposed strategy for delivering on its commitment to promote equality, diversity and human rights in its regulation work.
  • Give some detail about what the strategy will mean in practice.

The detail in this document covers the human rights topics that need to be considered to ensure people receive good quality care, and how the Commission proposes to look at these topics. It complements the information on human rights that has
been integrated into its provider handbooks.
