Violence against women and children (VAWC) can take many forms including domestic violence, sexual violence, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, and female genital mutilation. Violence and abuse can lead to increased risk of poor mental health, injuries, chronic physical conditions, unwanted and complicated pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and substance misuse, and the effects can last a lifetime and into subsequent generations. This document sets out how the Department of Health in partnership with others will take action in response to the report of the independent Taskforce on the Health Aspects of Violence Against Women and Children.
