The Amazing Spiderman! The Incredible Hulk! The Fabulous Fantastic Four!
The adventures of these familiar Marvel superheroes all have long histories reaching back to the early 1960s. Dating from 1972, this issue of The Mighty World of Marvel was the first to be published in the UK.
How did Spider-Man acquire his powers?
This Spider-Man comic strip reveals the superhero’s origins and fleshes out his early story. The comic runs through the entire story of Peter Parker being bitten, gaining powers and then losing his uncle and deciding to go on to fight against villains and crime. Most of the comic is drawn in green and white, with a coloured page at the end.
Spider-Man was first conceptualised by Marvel creator Stan Lee and originally drawn by Steve Ditko. He has since been illustrated by several different artists and continues to appear in multiple comics within the Marvel universe.
First appearing in Marvel comics in 1962, Spider-Man has been one of Marvel’s most popular heroes for decades. Film versions of Spider-Man’s adventures have been played by several different actors, including Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. He is one of the youngest superheroes, usually depicted as being in high school or college. It is often thought that it is because of his age that he remains so popular with younger fans.
