In 2014 the Cabinet Office commissioned an independent review of financial governance controls at Kids Company after responsibility for youth policy was transferred to the Cabinet Office in 2013. PFK Littlejohn carried out the review of the charity and provided a report with recommendations in March 2014.

The review concludes that the main financial risk to the organisation was cashflow. Adding: ‘we understand that a significant amount of management and finance time is spent in assessing and managing the cash position. Without improving the cash position of the charity it is not possible to build reserves and invest in new activities and locations’.
