This is the summary of a longer research report, based on research to research to identify emerging and best practices in leading and motivating staff during long-term cost reduction programmes. In particular it addresses programmes that involve pay cuts, redundancies and working with unions and other organised groups of employees. Most of the organisations in this study are now several years into cost reduction programmes, often in the guise of efficiency or operational excellence initiatives, and many are weary of change. The report provides practical advice for setting up change programmes and working with employees and their representatives to motivate the workforce and minimise tension and conflict. The full report is available from Corven Networks.
