The introduction of Universal Credit is a key element of the 2012 Welfare Reform Act, which aims to simplify the benefits and tax credit system. Local government is at the heart of an effective and innovative response to the implementation challenge through provision of support and advice to claimants. This paper reports on learning from eight English pilots to set up to test local government's role in providing face-to-face support to Universal Credit claimants
