This is the original front cover of a London first edition of Lyrical Ballads, 1798 edition, by William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Lyrical Ballads is now seen as a key Romantic text, but at the time it was reviewed badly and did not sell many copies. The copy here is in pink ‘boards’: the cheap cardboard cover put on by booksellers. The intention was that, when you bought the book, you took it to your bookbinder, who would bind it in leather, possibly to match the rest of your library.
