A guide describes new laws allowing consumers to take civil action against traders guilty of “misleading” or “aggressive” practices in inducing them to purchase goods or services. It describes the types of behaviour that would be considered to create a tort under the law, and notes those business sectors which are excluded to avoid conflict with specific regulation. Remedies may include cancellation of the contract, partial or full refund, and damages for financial loss or distress and inconvenience.
