Hindu sacred picture designed and published by the Calcutta Art Studio

This is No 1 in a set of Hindu sacred pictures designed and published by the Calcutta Art Studio. The studio was established in 1876 to produce high-quality lithographic prints of religious and mythological subjects for middle-class homes. There are 12 beautifully coloured prints in this set, called Series A. In this image Sri Chaitanya, who was born in 1486, is shown performing a 'kirtan', a devotional song, in the streets of Nabadwip, Bengal.
